Raise your hand when you run a coaching business and it all sounds familiar: While researching this position, we came across a handful of entrepreneurs who operate coaching companies without a coaching contract. Scott Barlow, founder of the six-figure career coaching program Happen to Your Career, did not have a coaching contract until his company grew large enough for him to go after other coaches to meet the demand, and together they decided that some guidelines may be correct. In this client coaching agreement, the parties accept the terms of the relationship between them, including what will be the focal point of coaching. Such an agreement also includes standard contractual clauses, such as the choice of law and court. Thank you so much for that! The growing focus on customer RESPONSIBILITY is to get people to act (critical for their way of thinking!). I was embarrassed by the lack of formality of my contracts, especially because I have a large number of client lawyers! But having something is better than nothing. When it`s time to pay for the new client, most coaches and consultants know they need something to validate the deal, a kind of contract that includes how much he`s been paid, what he gets, what you hum and what happens when things go wrong. But what most people don`t know is that you can`t just look for a „contract“ on Google, copy/paste a few items and expect it to be a legally binding agreement that actually says everything you need to protect your individual business based on your individual offerings. If the coaching you do is specifically related to your students` income potential (maybe you`re a career coach, or you`re teaching professional musicians how to market their talents), it adds an extra level of expectation, as there are now numbers and livelihoods on the line. A disclaimer of merit tells the coaches from the beginning: the only person who can control their earning potential is them.
